Itinerary
Delve into the history of Vietnam’s once-thriving Champa Kingdom in its most sacred ruins, followed by an exploration of the natural beauty found in the Marble Mountains and on Marble Beach. Depart from the pier and begin a scenic drive south to Da Nang, an economic powerhouse with some of Vietnam’s finest attractions. One of the stars is certainly the Cham Museum, where you’ll stop for a brief visit. The museum is home to the world’s largest collection of Cham sculpture and the sandstone and terracotta artwork here is arranged by period, dating from the 4th to the 14th centuries.
Next, you’ll enjoy a different perspective of this glorious time in Vietnam’s history at the My Son Sanctuary. Although now in ruins, this sacred site was once the religious center for the thriving capital of the Champa Kingdom. Many of the buildings at this UNESCO World Heritage Site are tower temples decorated with bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. It’s truly inspiring to walk among the ruins, imagining life here during its heyday.
On the leisurely return drive to Chan May, you’ll have choices either to stop by Hoian for a walking tour or to linger at picturesque Marble Mountain for photos and a bit of shopping. While meandering about, you may see villagers cutting beautiful stone sculptures from quarried marble, a specialty of the area. Continue on to Marble Beach, often referred to as China Beach, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Vietnamese lunch at a beach resort. If time permitting; take a walk on serene Marble Beach before re-boarding your coach for the drive back to the pier.
