Itinerary
Get a taste of life away from the hubbub of Hanoi by interacting with the residents of a serene Zen monastery and a small rural farm. As soon as you reach the countryside on the outskirts of Vietnam’s capital city, you will feel the pace of life slow down considerably.
By the time you reach the Truc Lam Giac Tam monastery on the northern shores of Ha Long Bay, you will be in just the right mood to join a restorative Zen Buddhist meditation session. The resident monks and nuns will be happy to share the history of this relatively new monastery and the origins of Zen Buddhist in Vietnam.
Not far away, you will be welcomed into a typical farmhouse for an enlightening conversation and meal with the family that owns it. You will see how they plant and maintain fruit trees, care for their animals and manage the farm. It will be a genuine, highly personal look at rural life.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1 1/2 hours of moderate walking and/or standing and a few steps. Tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair and are able to make their own way on and off transportation. Guests must be self-sufficient or if assistance is required, they should travel with a companion who can provide this. Lightweight, conservative clothing that covers the shoulders and knees will be appropriate. Comfortable, flat walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended.
